June serves as a reminder for Americans to come together and celebrate diversity — it’s Pride Month and Monday was Juneteenth. Yet, it feels like our country is more divided (and hostile) than ever. Personally, I can barely watch the news without being triggered. My partner and I are hesitant to attend a Pride festival because we don’t want to be statistics in a not-so-random act of violence.
